Activism as a Service

The concept of "Software as a Service" or SaaS has been around for years and is becoming an increasingly fashionable buzzword in technology and business circles.  Like many emerging trends the hype can get so intense that it's easy to simply dismiss it.  The fact is, there are sound reasons to take a good look at applying the SaaS deployment model for purposes of grassroots democracy.

What does this have to do with me?

If you're reading this, chances are you have a desire to influence the outcome of events rather than being a passive bystander.  We all know that web 2.0 techniques have been applied to grassroots activism with almost startling success.  But not every activist has the means or inclination to launch the kind of online campaigns that are truly successful.

Activism as a Service

Cloud/utility computing, open source technologies and crowd-sourcing don't have to be limited to the well-funded or the tech elite.  Why not use lessons learned in the business world to equip activists with online tools deployed using SaaS methods?  With Activism as a Service, anyone can run a professional online campaign with little more than supporters and devotion to a cause.

Introduction

A while ago, we started looking for online resources for online activism and political discussion. We found plenty, but then we wanted to do start involving supporters in the process - and it got a bit harder.

AktNow! will facilitate online activism for political and issues-based campaigns. Whether you're running for office or want to organize a rally, we intend to provide cheap (or free!) online tools to run whole campaigns from start to finish.

Stay tuned for more updates!
